Will NBA 2K24 support cross-play?

Find out if NBA 2K24 will support cross-play and everything you need to know about the cover athlete and the new ProPLAY game system.

As another thrilling NBA season approaches, so too does another chapter in the NBA 2K series, with NBA 2K24 set to hit shelves in September of this year. The game is expected to be the most advanced virtual basketball experience ever seen on a screen, with developers 2K Sports setting the bar high for their upcoming title.

NBA 2K24 promises to include new features that have never been seen before in the history of the game as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Here is everything you need to know about the game, including cross-play capabilities and the household name that will grace this year’s cover.

Will NBA 2K24 support cross-play?

For the first time in 2K’s long history of NBA titles, NBA 2K24 will support cross-play across consoles. After a long campaign from fans for this feature to become a reality, players can now challenge their friends and a wider pool of competitors across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

While it is great to finally see cross-play being introduced to the NBA 2K franchise, information indicates that this feature will only apply to PS5 and Xbox, leaving Nintendo Switch and PC out of the equation.

Who is the 2K24 cover athlete?

This year’s NBA 2K instalment will pay homage to the late Los Angeles Lakers legend, Kobe Bryant. He is the first announced cover athlete, with 2K also confirming that there will be a game mode called Mamba Moments, which will take a look into the greatest moments in Bryant’s storied career. This is likely going to replicate the popular Jordan Challenge in NBA 2K23, which took a close look into Michael Jordan’s career across 15 of his most famous visits to the court.

Introducing ProPLAY

In another new feature for the 2K basketball series, NBA 2K24 will feature new technology that promises to immerse players in the world of pro basketball like never before. While there is little-to-no information about exactly how the system works, 2K Sports promises unrivaled gameplay that uses footage from real-life NBA games to provide the most genuine representation of the sport.

There is plenty of speculation as to how this new gaming system works, however, rest assured that the signature moves, filthy cross-overs, and circus shots that make the NBA a global phenomenon will be more accessible than ever.

What is in the game’s special editions?

In preparation for the game’s release on September 8, 2023, 2K Sports has announced that there are four different editions of the game that can be pre-ordered now, each with its own bonus content.

However, each edition will include a 5,000 Virtual Currency bonus along with 10 Promo Packs, a 95-rated Kobe Bryant Free Agent card, and 5,000 MyTEAM points for MyTEAM Mode. The four editions are as follows;

  • Kobe Bryant (Standard) Edition
  • WNBA Edition
  • Black Mamba Edition
  • 25th Anniversary Edition

NBA 2K24 can be pre-ordered now and is set for release on September 8, 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
