The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Possible Delay

The highly anticipated sequel to Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom could be looking at another delay before launch.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is still considered to be one of the Nintendo Switch’s most popular games, coming out with the console in 2017. Its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, is currently set to release in May of this year, even though it was originally set to release sometime in 2022.

Now, there are indications that the game may be delayed once more. Zelda games are no strangers to delays, as almost each game in the franchise has been postponed or changed drastically during its development. Developers chalk this up to the team wanting to make the games as rounded out and perfect as possible prior to release.

Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic could also be to blame, as this has been the reason for many games and such being delayed over the last few years. Work stoppage and other such delays have caused many different industries to slow development of new products and updates, and the video games industry is no different.

There is much going on in the news about Tears of the Kingdom, especially with small leaks and information being discovered on the internet like game ratings and such. These things suggest that delays might actually not happen. However, most major Zelda games have been delayed in their development.

When Tears of the Kingdom was announced, fans were wildly excited to jump into the open world of Hyrule once again. From trailers and other released information, it seems that the game is running the same engine, mechanics, and other such things, which would speed development up greatly.

The first delay wasn’t unexpected. Actually, many gamers on online forums spoke to the positive side of Nintendo delaying Tears of the Kingdom in order to work on it a bit longer and give it a better polish. Breath of the Wild was delayed and, because of that, the game was able to become the legendary entry into the franchise that it is now.

At Nintendo’s Tokyo event, the game was promoted with a large statue of Link and a backdrop that still had the current release date of May 12th 2023 on it, which is a good sign for fans. The fact that there is an actual date along with the release month is also reassuring to fans that Nintendo is committing to a specific release date.

As with Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Last Demon, Nintendo seems to be trying quite hard to make sure that it releases games on their release dates without delay. So, Zelda fans can rejoice knowing these additional details.

The Legend of Zelda franchise is popular among gamers of all backgrounds. It stands as one of the best narrative-based RPGs that Nintendo has to offer and each game has a unique blend of colorful characters, vibrant locations, and engaging gameplay.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild completely shook up Zelda’s recipe and brought the world of Hyrule into the open-world genre. Breath of the Wild’s Hyrule is beautiful, expansive, and full of interesting mysteries for Link to explore. This same Hyrule will be featured in Tears of the Kingdom.

Fans are excited that Breath of the Wild is getting a full-blown sequel instead of just another DLC. The game, its characters, and its world are all so breathtaking and memorable that the game definitely warrants a sequel. As of now, Nintendo’s website still has May 12th as the release date in its blurb for the game:

“In addition to the vast lands of Hyrule, the latest entry in the storied Legend of Zelda series will take you up into the skies! Look forward to Link’s massive adventure starting again when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, drops for Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.”

Tears of the Kingdom looks to have new traversal mechanics, new enemies and locations to explore, and even the reappearance of what looks to be Ganondorf in the trailers. Fans are looking forward for more trailers and information from Nintendo soon about the highly anticipated game.
