Elden Ring’s Best Spirit Summons

Elden Ring is 2022’s Game of the Year and it has so many different gameplay elements and mechanics that it can be easy to get a bit lost in all of the game data. So, here is a list of some of the game’s best Spirit Summons to help anyone gain a bit of an edge in the game.

Elden Ring’s Spirit Summons

Elden Ring is a robust game with so many different aspects to it that new players can struggle to keep up. On top of that, in typical From Software style, the game does no hand-holding, meaning it doesn’t give many tutorials or information straight out of the gate to players in order to teach them everything. Instead, it focuses on letting players learn on their own, which can be quite frustrating at times.

One of these gameplay elements is that of the spirit summons. Players can find different Spirit Ashes throughout the game. Ranni the Witch gives players the Spirit Calling Bell and their first set of Ashes as the Lone Wolf Ashes. This allows players to start summoning three wolves in certain areas and boss fights to aid them in battle.

As players progress, they will be able to find more powerful spirits to summon into battle. Summoning spirits costs FP, and the more powerful a spirit is, the higher its FP cost will be. Spirit summons can also be upgraded by the Spirit Tuner Roderika at the Roundtable Hold using Grave and Ghost Glovewort items that are found in caves and catacombs throughout the Lands Between.

There are many different types of spirit summons. Some are entirely damage based, while others focus on tanking enemy damage or inflicting status effects. Others still are a combination of all of these things. Players will have to experiment and discover which spirit ashes are right for their particular build. The following spirit summons are in no specific order – they just represent some of the overall best spirit ashes in the game.

Dung Eater Puppet

This Spirit is only available to players if they hold off on giving Seluvis’s potion to either Gideon or Nepheli. Instead, if they force feed the potion to Dung Eater at the end of his questline, they can turn him into a puppet that can be summoned into battle.

The Dung Eater Puppet spirit summon is quite powerful. He has a large spine sword and can tank a lot of damage. His A.I. seems to know exactly when to run in and when to back off. He is also able to inflict status effects on enemies.

Stormhawk Deenh

Stormhawks are quite annoying enemies, as players will realize as they are going into Stormveil Castle for the first time. However, Stormhawk Deenh allows players to summon a quite powerful version of these enemies for themselves.

Stormhawk Deenh becomes available once players get to the Four Belfries in the Liurnia of the Lakes region and use a waygate to travel to the Chapel of Anticipation, which is the first initial starting area of the game, right before the tutorial cave. Here, players can re-challenge the Grafted Scion boss and, upon achieving victory and vengeance, go into the chapel to find the spirit ashes.

Deenh has blades on his feet that cause bleed damage and can also perform a fire-breath attack. The fact that Deenh flies around above enemies also means that he takes less damage unless enemies are able to shoot projectiles up at him or fly themselves.

Banished Knight Oleg

Along with Engvall, Oleg is one of the two knights known as the Wings of the Storm. Oleg can be found by using two Stonesword Keys on the imps in the Stranded Graveyard, which is in the beginning area of the game, right before players exit out into Limgrave for the first time.

Once inside, players must traverse the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave and defeat the Tree Spirit boss at the end in order to get the Banished Knight Oleg Spirit Ashes. This is well worth it though, because Oleg has two massive swords and a lot of tanky armor. He is quick and able to deliver some hard-hitting blows to all enemies. He does cost a whopping 100 FP to summon though, so it might be a while before players have a high enough Mind stat to be able to summon him.

Of course, there are many more spirit ashes that are great, like the Black Knife Tiche and the fan-favorite Mimic Tear. All of these spirit summons have their strengths and weaknesses and one of the greatest parts of Elden Ring is the ability to experiment with them all and figure out the best fit.
