Ever since Avatar was released back in 2009, the stunning work of hyper-realism has attained cult status. The second Avatar movie, the Way of Water, came out in 2022 and has lived up to its legacy. No wonder the gaming world decided to take notice! Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment are prepping to launch an all-new video game based on the franchise – Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
The release is still some way away (set for December 7, 2023), but we can’t help obsessing over it and wondering what it will entail. One question gamers are asking worldwide is – will the Avatar game support crossplay? We have consolidated all the information on the subject so you know what to expect.
What to Expect in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
From the looks of the trailer, it is safe to presume it will be an enthralling and addictive action-adventure game. The open-world adventure will let players explore Pandora – specifically, the western frontier – like never before. It is an independent timeline and story set after the second movie, Avatar: The Way of Water, released late last year.
While you’ll probably not encounter any characters from the films, Pandora’s glorious, enticing world will be yours to inhabit. The game will cast the player as a Na’vi, whose prime goal is building a resilient and healing relationship with wildlife and the whole planet.
The company is reportedly developing complex, utterly breathtaking environments for the players to explore on foot, on Direhorses, or the back of a Banshee. Protecting you from the forces will be classic Na’vi weapons like bows and those obtained from the Resources Development Administration – the RDA (like shotguns). The high-tech action game also promises stealth-based combat and new skills tailored to your Na’vi persona.
Will Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora be Compatible with Crossplay?
The title releases on PlayStation5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Unfortunately, it won’t be available on PS4 or Xbox One. So, can you play with your friends on other platforms? So, the developers have not yet confirmed whether the game will be multiplayer or single-player. We also don’t have any official word yet on cross-platform compatibility.
However, we predict it will support a two-player online co-op. Massive Entertainment has a rich record of fantastic co-op adventure games like Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. Moreover, Ubisoft is building this game with the newest iteration of Snowdrop. It is also the company’s first game intended only for next-gen. The technological advancements are such that harnessing the additional features and hardware of the latest console generation is crucial.
